beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field
"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there. " Rumi
What happens when we listen deeply to another or ourselves?
We enter a space where we are curious, sensitive and open. We may have ideas about what will happen next, or judgements, we may not, but either way they are welcomed and included. They are not the one who listens but guests watching on perhaps, maybe worried, but certainly not the ones with ears!
We can recognise the difference between fresh living experience and what you could call "a story" If we are in a story, we will find ourselves saying things like "they never do...." I'll always be..." Never and always are the words that parts of us use.
We step out of the known and into the unknown. It can be a scary step for some parts of us. It takes some amount of trust to do this. A degree of letting go of what we know and all that comes with it.
It can be dangerous to enter the field of real experience, to enter the world of another. Threatening and challenging even - especially if we have a strong agenda or an idea if what outcome we want.
It's an adventure. A place of learning. A meeting with life.
It can be exciting, vibrant and alive, or shaky, vulnerable and humbling or all of these.
It is a place where we can SEE the other ( or some part of ourself) just as it is, we can hear the truth. We see that somebody is in there.
We need this, the world needs this.
